About POTTS POINT, and surrounding areas

Potts Point was previously known as Woolloomooloo Hill. Located east of the city centre, it is one of Sydney‘s oldest suburbs. Formerly the home of rich landowners such as its namesake Joseph Potts. It is still a hot spot for the wealthy and influential, and there are plenty of things to see and do in Potts Point during your Australia vacation.

Leave the car keys on the hook and step out into a neighbourhood like no other: the Potts Point area rewards walkers with both the fresh and familiar, underscoring its great lifestyle and possibilities.

Potts Point holds the crown of being one of Sydney’s most walkable suburbs. No matter what you’re after, there’s a walk to suit you. Here are five of our favourites.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

RESTAURANTS & CAFES

OWNERS PICK!

Clove Lane

19 Clovelly Rd, Randwick NSW 2031

WEBSITE

Full of all the charm of a welcoming neighbourhood gem, Clove Lane in Randwick is the local you wish was yours. It isn't fine dining or an overtly outrageous menu- it is more focused on a back to basics style that sources high-quality produce delivered with classic elegance. The open gallery style kitchen provides a theatrical backdrop to the modern dining space that is furnished with blonde timber and pendant lighting. If you take a look at the back there is an abundant chefs garden growing in bloom, and it doesn't get much fresher than that!

SAKE

2 Argyle Street, The Rocks

WEBSITE

Sydney’s Finest Japanese Restaurant The Rocks installation is undoubtedly the best in the city (and close to our home) and possibly the finest Japanese dining that Sydney has to offer.

This is thanks to head chef Chi Ung Kim’s notable experience with the cuisine. The Japanese grill here is world class, and we would recommend ordering anything from the grill

When it comes to dessert, they serve one of Sydney's most famous - the dragon egg (pictured here).

Chula

33 Bayswater Road, Potts Point

WEBSITE

Offering regional Mexican dishes in wicker chairs and a packed menu of tequila and mezcal cocktails.

Located next door to the flashy new Flamingo Lounge, without a doubt, Chula is the best Mexican restaurant in Potts Point and one of the best in Sydney, thanks to its head chef, Alvaro Valenzuela. Unlike other Mexican eateries, this gem bears food like snapper, deboned and dressed in a green tomatillo sauce on one side of the spine and smoky red salsa on the other. Expect savoury tacos loaded with juicy meat, medium-rare slices of scotch fillet, adorned in red onions, coriander, and served in a corn tortilla — nirvana in you the mouth.

The Bourbon Hotel

22 Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point

WEBSITE

Set in the heart of Potts Point, The Bourbon is a live music and cocktail bar open late daily.

With a great selection of cocktails, food to match and live music, 7 days per week, this is the perfect place to relax. Daily from 5:30pm The Bourbon offers some of Sydney’s best live acts, all playing acoustically from classic rock to current and also their own music.

Also, the 2 for $25 cocktails special offering 12 classics, any 2 for $25!

Flybridge Cafe

1b New Beach Road, Rushcutters Bay

WEBSITE

A slice of paradise close to the bustling city in Rushcutters Bay. Open for breakfast and lunch right on the beautiful Sydney Harbour, serving great coffee and top quality, simple food.

Louise says there is nothing like a coffee and a bacon and egg roll sitting by the water at this 5 star café – absolute heaven!

Ms. G’s

155 Victoria St, Potts Point

WEBSITE

Ms. G’s has brought five floors of fun to its Potts Point neighbourhood. The funky noodle bar displays an irreverent edge, with super-charged Asian classics and an ‘anything goes’ kind of style.

Vietnamese banh mi are re-imagined as zingy sliders and Thai green curry is sandwiched into a jaffle with braised beef and buffalo mozarella. The cool decor, with its graffiti, pink neon and veggie garden, is just a bonus.

China Doll

6 Cowper Wharf Road, Woolloomooloo

WEBSITE

With water frontage, city views and fabulous cocktails, this two-storey double frontage attracts flocks of ladies who lunch and men in boat shoes – and they may just own the boat moored out front. But a well-priced banquet menu and varied wine list make this a fine choice for anyone.

Popular siu mai dumplings are packed full of pork, prawns and shiitake with scallops to top them off, while pork sang choy bao is both rich and refreshing with crunchy peanuts, crisp beans and cool lettuce cups. Make sure to leave room for dessert, they’re all really good!

Sweetheart’s Rooftop Barbecue

33 Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point

WEBSITE

Located on the rooftop, above Kings Cross' infamous nightclub, Sugarmill, is Sweetheart's Rooftop Barbecue. From the team behind The Winery, Gazebo, Cargo Bar and Bungalow 8, Sweetheart's offers a funky outdoor space to enjoy wine on tap, Little Creatures Pale Ale shandies, wine spritzers, pitchers of sweet lolly- water and spiked cider slushies. As its name suggests, the menu here is quintessentially Australian - meat and seafood are simply grilled on the barbecue, which is exactly how outdoor eating should be done.

Thai Power

130 Victoria Street, Potts Point

WEBSITE

One of the hidden gems in Potts Point! Thai Power is the 'go to' place for authentic Thai food. Lunch specials are the best deals. Can't go wrong with Pad Thai, Pad Ka Prow, and Spicy Noodles (a secret menu).

The food is tasty, service is quick and prices are really good value. It’s even BYO if you want to sit in. Very tasty meals and perfect for a quick and easy takeaway!

Penny’s Cheese Shop

4 Roslyn Street, Potts Point

WEBSITE

Penny’s Cheese Shop is your one-stop-cheese- shop. Sourcing local and international cheeses to enjoy with all the extras; honey, crackers, bread and quince paste.

Penny and the team will cut your cheese to order, organise platters small and large and help with catering and cheese-tower building.

Whatever your cheese needs Penny’s Cheese Shop can help you out.

The Apollo

44 Macleay St, Potts Point

WEBSITE

The Apollo has claimed its place as the number one go-to restaurant in Potts Point. Inspired by the design of the Parthenon, the eatery has become a Sydney dining hotspot, dishing up the likes of succulent lamb shoulders, little glass jars of cream taramasalata, calamari and zucchini tossed in chickpea flour as well as octopus with a hint of charcoal, chilli, oregano and pickled cucumber served with a savvy drink of your choice.

The Apollo embodies the flavour of Greece, a lively ambience and matchless hospitality.

Bamfords in Kirribilli

10 Fitzroy St, Kirribilli NSW 2061

WEBSITE

Here are some reviews:

Stopped in this little gem for a quick drink before popping over the bridge. Fantastic service and great wine! Didn't need a snack, but it all smelled and looked delicious. Maria, the bartender was superb. Definitely recommend.

Great food, great drinks and a great atmosphere. Had a range of the share plates with friends and we couldn't fault any of them, the arancini balls were incredible! We will definitely be back!
